Axel Springer interested in Telegraph titles
Axel Springer has expressed interest in acquiring the Telegraph in an auction for the media assets owned by the Telegraph Media Group which include The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph according to Sky News.
The presence of Axel Springer, which owns Business Insider and Politico could initiate a bidding war with DMGT, owner of the Daily Mail and Sir Paul Marshall, co-owner of GB News among other parties.
The Barclay family who owned the media assets, owed Bank of Scotland loans dating back before the financial crisis and with the bank account by the Lloyds Banking Group, the parent company was seized and placed in the hands of receivers for auctioning to recover the loans due.
Axel Springer had tried to buy the Telegraph titles back in 2004 only to lose out to the Barclays and also recently lost the bidding war for the Financial Times to Nikkei in 2014.
