  • OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022 as an interactive chatbot with human-like responses.
  • The company has faced challenges over the training of its AI using copyrighted materials such as books.
  • With the latest ChatGPT update, users will be able to surf the web, expanding the data the chatbot can access.

ChatGPT previously had been trained on data up to September 2022. However, that has certainly changed. OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed creator of ChatGPT, has said the chatbot will now allow users to surf the web.

The company had earlier tested and later disabled a feature allowing users to access the latest information through the Bing search engine. The disabling was because of fears it could allow users to bypass paywalls.

This is not the only major development recently from the startup. It announced that it would enable ChatGPT to have voice conversations with users and interact with them using images which could theoretically mean definitely not taking a picture of your math homework and having the chatbot solve it for you.

ChatGPT can also respond to questions with spoken words, resulting in a two-way conversation rather than text-based prompts and answers. Since the product is based on a large language model, it can be able to have a free-flowing dialogue with a human prompter differentiating it from existing voice assistants like Siri and Alexa.
