OpenAI is opening an office in Dublin, the company announced on Thursday, 14th of September. It follows a number of U.S. tech companies with offices in Dublin, with the list including Meta and Google.

Although only there are only 9 open roles available, the company intends to open more roles in the future according to the company’s chief strategy officer, Jason Kwon.

The company’s headquarters are in San Fransisco while it also set up shop in London in June as it looks to placate regulators from hampering the company’s growth momentum in generative AI.

Ireland is often seen as a good landing place for many tech companies to engage with European regulatory bodies while also tapping into the EU market, although the country has had favorable corporate tax policies for years to attract businesses to the country.

ChatGPT is the second fastest-growing app in history, only bested by Meta’s Threads app in 2023. The product brought artificial intelligence to the mainstream and created both excitement and alarm drawing massive criticism from privacy watchdogs over its data collection policies.
